Introduction to LEGO Robotics
In Intro to LEGO Robotics, brainiac’s instructors cover the basics of robotics, the scientific method, forces, and design. Students work through, build challenges in teams to research, strategize, plan, build and program robotic solutions to their own defined projects. Learn about sensors, motors, stability, and programming through the engineering design process!
In Environmental Science, students dive into the study of environmental science concepts such as renewable and non-renewable resources, recycling, energy efficiency, and water conservation. Through building robot arms, students gain an understanding of the environmental impacts of their everyday actions. Learn accountability, responsibility, and critical thinking through fun, team-oriented projects!
In Simple Machines, students are introduced to levers, inclined planes, pulleys, screws, and much more. Brainiacs’ engaging instructors guide kids through building mechanisms such as cams and gears, while completing challenges to stretch their knowledge of machines and mechanisms in combination. Working in teams, students design, build, and test solutions to problems, using motors to bring designs to life!
In Game Modding, students learn to customize the Minecraft experience with tools and techniques used by real game developers. Begin with the basics in Intro to Minecraft Mods, where Brainiacs’ instructors help bring your ideas to life, then move on to Advanced Minecraft Mods and dive even further into creative thinking and more advanced development skills.
Intro to Minecraft™ Mods
Minecraft Mods first teaches how to install resources packs and pre-existing mods. After evaluating mods to define qualities for your own, create items, blocks, and new materials. Work with real developer tools including JDK, Eclipse, and Gimp to bring your creations to life!
Advanced Minecraft™ Mods
Advanced Minecraft Mods dives deeper into the Minecraft Coders Pack to enable more advanced modding. Create custom inventory tabs, biomes, crops, and unique armor. Build on what you learned in Intro to Minecraft Mods to create a new and improved mod to show off to family and friends!
Game Design students dive deeper into the concepts of interactive software design. Learn variables, ‘if, else’ statements, conditionals, operators, and more. By the end of the course, students will be armed with the skills they need to design and create their very own games from the ground up using Scratch.
Computer Programming and Coding
Your child builds real programming skills while creating their own games and music videos. Using Scratch, a block-based programming language developed at MIT, Brainiacs’ engaging instructors deliver a fun, guided curriculum that gives your child real world skills that can change their life.
Introduction to Python
In Intro to Python, students are introduced to syntax-based programming. Students will learn lists, strings, conditions, how to draw animations and make the foundation of a platform game. Python is an easy-to-learn programming language that is perfect for beginners!
In App Creation, students explore the software design process using App Inventor 2, a block-based, visual programming approach designed by MIT. Learn and use real development techniques like event handlers, timers, lists, database management, and script generation to go from concept to a functional application that is yours to keep. After class you can continue to develop your favorite apps at home, share them with friends via the App Inventor Gallery, and even sell them on the Google Play™ store!
