Micro-Grid Planning (Basic Understanding for Job Opportunities in the Energy Industry)
October 28, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
From October 2012 – May 2016 he has been with the Institute of Energy, Cardiff University as a PhD researcher (with a PhD scholarship award from PTDF Nigeria). His research focuses on the management of distributed energy resources in electrical energy systems. In 2015, Abubakar was awarded the Cardiff University PGR International Experience Fund to visit the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), California, USA. From April – June 2015, Abubakar worked as a research affiliate at the Grid Integration Group of the LBNL. During that time, he worked on extending the capabilities of the LBNL’s Distributed Energy Resources Customer Adoption Model (DER-CAM) to include a power flow and the UK feed in tariff system. He received his BEng in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2008 and Master’s degree with Distinction in Energy Systems Engineering from the University of South Wales in 2011. Abubakar won the second prize award of the IEEE standard’s Education UK&RI Student Paper competition in 2013. He is an expert in the optimisation of distributed energy resources, modelling, planning and operation of low voltage electricity distributed networks. Abubakar is passionate about contributing his skill sets to enhance the adoption and deployment of distributed energy systems in Nigeria.
